Kanakapura
The Bananthimari Betta is a small hill just three km from Kanakapura. It lies on the road from Kanakapura to Ramanagar, between Konanadoddi and Kutnahalli. It is not very well known. The name means “mother nursing a baby.” It is not a steep trek and there is no signage. The hike starts at the Bananthimari temple.
The Bananthimari Betta trek is a half-day excursion from Kanakapura. While the route is not well-marked, it is still fairly easy and offers spectacular views of the Kanakapura valley and the Bananthimari monsoon-cloud forest. Although the trek is not difficult, you should be fit and have some stamina to complete it.
Kanakapura Hill is not well known, and it appears to be a walkable destination. Its summit is around the size of a football field. Animal sacrifices still occur at the hill, despite its proximity to Bangalore. However, you must be extremely careful on this route, as the terrain can be rough.
There are several ways to reach Kanakapura. If you are trekking on your own, you may want to map your route and avoid large boulders. Be sure to pack a quantity of water and food. It is also helpful to have a compass to navigate the temple.
Konanadoddi
The Bananthimari Betta trek is located between Konanadoddi and Kuthnahalli, both of which are located near Kanakapura. The beautiful mountain is a twin hillock surrounded by lush green valleys and patches of flowers. A trek to this peak can be challenging but rewarding. During the trek, you will enjoy views of a beautiful valley and the waterfalls that flow down the mountainside.
You can choose to climb Bananthimari Hill from the Kanakapura-Ramanagara road. There is also an alternative route from Kuthagondanahalli. The start of the trek is at the Bananthimari Temple, located at the base of the hill.
The Bananthimari Betta has located approximately 75km from Bangalore and is less crowded than Konanadoddi. It has a beautiful green valley with a bountiful stream flowing down from the mountain. Located on the Kanakpura-Ramanagaram highway, Konanadoddi is just 3 km from the town of Kanakpura. It is also the route to the Konanadaddi temple. While the temple is well-preserved, you may want to trek down to the temple itself.
Near Kananadaddi, Bananthimari Betti is the perfect place to see the sacred monkeys. Its two twin hillocks are surrounded by lush green valleys, beautiful meadows, and a haunting stream. The hike is about eight kilometers long and will take about four to five hours for a reasonably fit individual.
