Thadiyandamol is the highest peak of the Kodagu region and is an enchanting trek for nature lovers, bird watchers, and photo enthusiasts. The majestic landscape has inspired people since time immemorial, including the erstwhile rulers of the region. Nearby, you will find the Nalknad Palace, an old palace that dates back over two centuries. It is also surrounded by the Western ghats.

The Thadiyandamol trek requires a moderate level of fitness. The distance covered is between 12 and 23 km, which is why trekking poles and GPS are highly recommended. The final stretch of the trek to Tadiandamol peak is slippery and requires proper shoes. The trek takes approximately one day and requires endurance.

After the trek, you can visit Nalknad Palace. A 40-minute walk from the viewpoint, you can explore this ancient palace and its grounds. Until early 2020, vehicles were not allowed to visit the palace. However, concrete blocks have been erected at the base of Thadiyandamol, making it possible for vehicles to access it.

You can start your trek in the morning, although it is better to begin your trek before noon, as the sun will rise in the evening and make the journey more difficult. If you decide to drive yourself, you can get a vehicle that will take you to Kakkabe. You can also take a local bus to Aramane, which drops you off at Kakkabe. Alternatively, if you choose to travel by car, you can get off the bus at Kakkabe junction, saving you about 15 minutes of walking.

The best time to visit Thadiyandamol is post-monsoon. You can enjoy the lush green forests and amazing views of the Western Ghats during this time. Ensure that you have the right gear and permission from the forest department before going on the trek. Also, avoid the peak summer months, when wildfires are common.

Thadiyandamol, meaning ‘Large Mountain’, is the highest mountain range in the Coorg district of Karnataka and is the fifth-highest mountain range in the state. It stands 1748 meters high. The mountain range is less traveled by tourists and is a great place to trek if you’re looking for some rugged, unspoiled wilderness. It is about 280 km from Mysore and 140 km from Bangalore.

The trek begins at the Nalknad Palace and winds up gently to the base of the mountain. The trail ends near a waterfall. This fall is approximately 5 minutes into the trek. If you are a trekker, the waterfall section is a good place to stop for a short walk. If you’re not sure where the waterfall is, you can download a GPX file.

The trek to the top of Thadiyandamol is 15 kilometers long and requires one day to complete. During the day, temperatures are comfortable (about 35 deg C) and the nights are cooler (17 degC), making it a comfortable trek. Avoid the monsoon season, as it can be difficult to trek during this time.
