Folk Museum has close to 6500 collections of unique articles. The Gallery is divided into different   sections with folklore, large dolls, literature and art. The Museum has costumes of both northern and southern forms of Yakshagana, Kathakali of Kerala, and folk dramastist of Andra Pradesh. The Yakshagana costumes have padding and accessories of both Thenkathittu and Badguthittu.

The Museum has a collection of rare and historic Hanuman crown from Kugalaballi village in North Karnataka. Mask puppets, leather dolls, sawdust dolls from various parts of Karnataka, Items representing the Soliga community, Ink preparation at Dodderi village of Chitradurga about 200 years ago. The mantap was used by Jhanapeeta awardee Kuvempu.  

The Museum has musical instruments of folk including string, percussion and wind instruments. The string instruments are kinnari of Jogis, the choudike and Tamburi of the tatwapada singers and string instrument of the Nilagaras falls. Percussion nstruments include birapanadollu, gondaliga’s sambala, Halakki gowda’s gummate, chande, dimmidammadi, the damaruga of Goravas and the Nagari. Wind instruments include junjappanagane a three-foot long flute, the kombu, khale and pungi. Collections of figures representing Gods, Kings, Queens, Hermits and Soldiers are displayed with a wide range of varities and restored artifacts.

All the musical instruments are very well maintained and are kept at its mint condition. Some of them which are used by famous musicians are kept as it, which was worn out making it very authentic and kept real. Most of the instruments are still playable but not recommended because of the age factor coming to play. Instruments collected are collected from famous personalities, kings and other important people responsible for revolution. These instruments have a great value to the culture and create an atmosphere of seldom which many people desire. The collections at the Folklore Museum Mysore include deities, ceremonial headwear, religious objects, village deities like Soma and Bhutha. The large doll at the museum has statues and large dolls, used in dances which include Maari, Soma, Kaibhutha, Talebhutha and Gadi Maari. These dolls represent the clothing worn by the native Bootha Kaala and the tradition which have been followed by many generations traditionally.
