Vande Mataram Meaning In Hindi:

वन्दे मातरम्।
सुजलाम् सुफलाम्

शस्यश्यामलाम्

वन्दे मातरम्।

Vande- mātaram – I revere the mother. The mother revered here is not a human being or goddess. It is our motherland, mother India. Since a mother is dearest to a child, the poet chooses to feminize the land in which he has been born and lives. He describes the attributes of the mother he worships, as she is the one with the purest and sweet water (sujalāṃ). She is the one who has pure and healthy food and fruits (suphalāṃ). Malayagiri hills situated in Orissa India are famous for their sandalwood forests. Poet claims that the motherland he worships has a cold and refreshing breeze having sandalwood aroma in it (Malayaja-śītalām) just like the breeze of Malayagiri. He later describes the soil of his motherland which is very productive and prosperous (śasya) and light-brown (śyāmalāṃ) in color.

Poet again praises mother India by describing her features. He says that in his motherland, every night is filled with the bright and shining white moonlight (śubhra jyotsnā) means even in the darker times there is hope and happiness. It has the nights which give pleasure and satisfaction to the people, after the whole day of hard work. Nights (Yāminīm) are filled with a sense of gratification (Pulakita). The land here is fascinating and always looks beautiful with greenery and a bundle of flowers (Phulla kusumita drumadala śobhinīm). There is no match in the world for the sweetness of different languages chanted by its people (Sumadhura bhāṣiṇīm). The languages spoken by its people are melodious and delightful (Suhāsinīṃ). He exclaims that his mother-land provides the pursuits of happiness (sukhadāṃ) and is the source of power and divine favor (Varadāṃ).
