Newly elected MPS of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) arrived in Parliament today morning for a meeting on cabinet formation ahead of the swearing in ceremony.
As per the sources, discussions will be held on government formation by the grand alliance. This comes after the NDA crossed the majority mark bagging 293 seats in the Lok Sabha polls. However, the BJP managed to secure only 240 seats, much lower than its 2019 tally.
The parties of the NDA unanimously passed a resolution electing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their leader at a meeting at the Prime Minister’s official residence on Wednesday.
In all, 21 NDA leaders signed the resolution, which appreciated PM Modi’s efforts in nation-building, welfare of the poor, and development, adding that they were all partners in that effort.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to present his claim to form a new coalition government today after a meeting with all the newly elected MPs of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), sources have said. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been engaged in hectic negotiations with its alliance partners since results were declared on Tuesday.
The NDA won 293 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha. The BJP, which enjoyed a handsome majority in the previous two terms, secured only 240 seats, way behind the 272 mark needed to form a government in its own right.
The four allies whose support is critical for the BJP to reach the majority are N Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP, which has won 16 seats, Nitish Kumar’s JDU (12), Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena (7) and Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas (5).

Among the 17 women candidates fielded by prominent political parties in Maharashtra, seven have managed to secure a victory in the recently concluded 2024 Lok Sabha elections. These include four from the Congress party.
Here’s a look at the women MPs from Maharashtra all set to be a part of the 18th Lok Sabha:
1. Supriya Sule
Ms Supriya, the daughter of veteran politician Sharad Pawar, won the Baramati seat for the fourth successive time and defeated Sunetra Pawar, the wife of her cousin and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, by 1,58,333 votes. For the first time, two members of the Pawar family were contesting against each other on their home turf.
2. Smita Wagh
The BJP continued its dominance in the Jalgaon constituency, with Smita Wagh managing a comfortable win against Karan Balasaheb Patil-Pawar of Shiv Sena (UBT) by 2,51,594. This seat has been a stronghold of the saffron party since 1999.
3. Raksha Khadse
BJP leader Raksha Khadse, the daughter-in-law of veteran politician Eknath Khadse, secured a hat-trick from the Raver seat, defeating Shriram Dayaram Patil of the NCP (SP) by 2,72,183 votes. She is the widow of Nikhil Khadse and first contested from the seat in 2014 on a BJP ticket.
4. Praniti Shinde
Praniti is the daughter of former Union Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and is the MLA from the Solapur City Assembly constituency. In the 2024 elections, she defeated BJP MLA Ram Satpute by a margin of 74,197 votes from the Solapur Lok Sabha seat.
5. Varsha Gaikwad
Congress’ Mumbai unit president Varsha Gaikwad, an MLA from Dharavi, won against noted lawyer and BJP candidate Ujjwal Nikam from the Mumbai North-Central parliamentary constituency by a margin of 16,514 votes.
6. Pratibha Dhanorkar
Pratibha, the sitting Congress MLA from Warora, has registered a win from the Chandrapur seat in the 2024 elections. This Lok Sabha constituency was earlier represented by her husband Suresh Dhanorkar from 2019 until his demise in 2023. Pratibha defeated state forest minister Sudhir Mungantiwar by 2,60,406 votes.
7. Shobha Dinesh Bachhav
Congress’ Shobha Bachhav has secured a victory from the Dhule parliamentary seat in north Maharashtra against two-time incumbent MP Subhash Bhamre. She defeated him by a margin of 3,831 votes. This seat was held by the BJP since 2009.
Several sanitation workers, transgenders, and laborers part of the Central Vista Project will be among the special guests at the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the weekend, sources said on Friday.
Railway employees working in Vande Bharat and Metro, the beneficiaries of central government schemes, and the “Viksit Bharat” ambassadors have also been invited to the much-awaited oath-taking ceremony, which is set to take place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday.
Arrangements are being made for over 8,000 guests at Rashtrapati Bhavan, sources said.

The BJP on Thursday hit back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who had alleged a connection between “BJP, exit pollsters and dubious foreign investors”. It also accused the Congress leader of “conspiring to mislead market investors”.
Addressing a press conference, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said that the Congress leader “has still not overcome the opposition’s defeat” in the Lok Sabha elections. Several opposition parties had come together to form the INDIA bloc to take on the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha polls.
With the BJP falling short of majority in Lok Sabha, its allies in NDA have started bargaining hard for plum ministries at the Centre. The allies, including Coalition-era veterans N Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar, are learnt to have put forward their demands in the NDA meeting held yesterday. No official word on what they have demanded is out yet, but hectic negotiations are on, it is learnt.
There is speculation that Mr Naidu’s TDP, which has won 16 Lok Sabha seats and also swept the Andhra Pradesh Assembly polls, have demanded five ministerial berths, including a Minister of State post for Finance, and the Lok Sabha Speaker’s post. TDP may also be looking at portfolios such as Roads, Panchayati Raj, Health and Education.
Two days after Lok Sabha election results denied a clear majority to the BJP, its allies in NDA have started bargaining hard for plum posts at the Centre. The BJP, however, is not in the mood to let go of key miniseries and roles, sources have said. With the single largest party well short of the magic figure, NDA allies are now on a tight deadline to reach a consensus as plans are afoot to hold the swearing in ceremony of the third Narendra Modi government this weekend.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his incoming Andhra Pradesh counterpart Chandrababu Naidu have emerged as kingmakers after Tuesday’s Lok Sabha election result, which left the BJP 32 seats short of majority and dependent on them for support to form and run the new government.
